Vernon George Nickel

Funeral Services for Vernon Nickel, 90, Clinton resident will be held 10:00 A.M. Monday, November 26, 2018 in the First Mennonite Church, officiated by Harvey Friesen and Daniel Mosburg. Burial will follow in the Clinton Cemetery Clinton, OK under the direction of the Kiesau-Lee Funeral Home. Vernon George Nickel was born October 12, 1928 to Henry and Freda (Baergen) Nickel in Weatherford, OK and passed away Thursday, November 22, 2018 in the Clinton Veteran Center in Clinton. Vernon was raised in Clinton and graduated from Clinton High School in 1948. He enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1951; he served in the Korean Conflict. After his Honorable discharge he moved to Louisiana and worked in the oil fields. He soon returned to Western Oklahoma and settled in Clinton. He was married to Norma Ann Friesen on August 5, 1960 in Clinton. He started working for the Kerns and Schneider Funeral Home and after 20 years of service he became a full time farmer with Bill Friesen. He was a member of the First Mennonite Church, and a member of the American Legion; he enjoyed doing woodwork, being with grandkids and tinkering on his farm. He was preceded in death by his parents, Henry and Freda Nickel and step mother, Hulda Nickel; two brothers, Ardie Nickel and Hershel Nickel and a sister, Mildred Patton. He is survived by his wife, of the home, daughter, Toni Nickel and Amber Ruiz, of Moore, OK, two sons, Lynn Nickel and wife, Ellie, Richmond, VA and Chuck Nickel and wife, Kasey, Clinton. He is also survived by four grandchildren, Nicholas, Chelsea, Cameron and Lince and his best friend, Leon Hoffman, of Clinton.
