Funeral Services for Violet McClanahan, 85, Clinton resident will be held 10:00 A.M., Monday, April 8, 2019 in the Kiesau Memorial Chapel, officiated by Doyle Kinney. Burial will conclude 2:00 P.M., in the Rose Hill Cemetery in Chickasha, Oklahoma under the direction of the Kiesau-Lee Funeral Home. Violet (Skaggs) Lyons-McClanahan was born March 23, 1934 to A.E. and Mary Josephine (Smith) Skaggs in Chickasha, OK and passed away Wednesday, April 3, 2019 in her Clinton home. She married Johnie Lyons on December 14, 1949 in Oklahoma City, OK. They were married for approximately 20 years. She later married William F. Allison on July 9, 1969 in Coolidge, Arizona. She was attending Central State College in Edmond, Oklahoma and graduated in July 1970. She then moved to Coolidge, Arizona. Their marriage ended in divorce and she returned to Oklahoma and worked as a teacher's aide with Clinton Public Schools. She married Olen McClanahan on March 17, 1985 in Shamrock, Texas and he preceded her in death in 1997. In August of 1985 she obtained a position as Special Education Teacher for the Multi-Handicapped children at Will Rogers Elementary School in Burns Flat, Oklahoma. She completed her Master Degree in Mentally Handicapped and Learning Disabilities at Southwestern Oklahoma State University in Weatherford, Oklahoma in May of 1987. She was transferred to Burns Flat High school in 1992 and was chosen "Teacher of The Year" for the 1992-1993 school years. She served as president of her education association for three years, vice president for a year and reporter for four years. She taught the multi handicapped class for 25 years retiring August 1, 2010. Violet enjoyed taking her students to Special Olympics at Clinton and Weatherford and to the state tournament in Stillwater. Her students held a special place in her heart and she was able to see all of them graduate from high school. Mrs. McClanahan was a member of the Clinton AARP for several years holding the Vice President post for four years, president for three years and the music chairman for seven years. After she retired she loved to travel and had been to all but three states. She was preceded in death by her parents, son, Lloyd Irwin Lyons, brother, Clarence Albert Marion Skaggs, sisters, Rosa Viola Hodge, Patsy Pulis, and Bessiemae Mahan. She is survived by four daughters, Janice Bozarth, Catherine Burnett, both of Chickasha, Cheryl Lynn Ross, Yukon, Oklahoma and Jody Elayne McKinnon, Hinton, Oklahoma. She is also survived by 10 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren and two great great grandchildren.
