Wanita Ethel Hendrix April 17, 1932 – July 22, 2021 Though we grieve that they are no longer with us, we rejoice that James and Wanita have met again. James and Wanita were married August 26, 1950, shortly after Wanita had graduated from Burns Flat High School and James had returned from an Army tour of duty in Panama. James was called back up by the Army during the Korean War and was stationed in Fort Sill, Oklahoma, until his honorable discharge in 1953. In 1960, the young family moved to the Oklahoma City metro area, and James began working on the printing press for OPUBCO. Wanita was a homemaker and devoted mother to the couple’s four sons: James Loy, Steve, Chad and Richard. After James’ retirement, he and Wanita moved back to Burns Flat in 1987, and they became members of the Cumberland Presbyterian Church. When James passed away 11 months before Wanita, they were only four days short of their 70th wedding anniversary. As they had done everything else together in life, Wanita requested that a memorial service for James be combined with hers, when her time came. She missed him immensely. Throughout their lives, James and Wanita were helpers and doers. They were known for helping out those in need, and in keeping with that spirit, the family suggests that any memorial donations go to Step Up Transitional Living (stepuptransition.org), which helps at-risk youth in western Oklahoma.
