Wayne August Cardinal was born August 16, 1934 to August William Cardinal and Ethel Hazel (Thompson) in Vincennes, Indiana and passed away Monday, March 9, 2020 in the Oklahoma University Hospital in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. Wayne was raised and attended school in Vincennes, Indiana. On April 22, 1952, at 17 years of age, he enlisted in the U.S. Air Force. He then began a lifelong career as a Hydraulic Mechanic in the Air Force Civilian Service, served as president of the local union at Nellis Air Force Base, and retired in 1989. In 1998, he and Shirley moved to Arapaho, OK—where he spent the remainder of his life tending to his wife, his dogs, and his land on “Outback Acres,” the 22- acre ranch property where he resided. A family man through-and-through, Wayne was a constant reminder of what it meant to be committed to those you love and true to one’s word.
