Weldon Harold Hyman

Funeral Services for Harold Hyman, 92, Clinton resident, will be held 11:00 A.M., Friday, October 28, 2022, in the Custer Avenue Church of Christ, officiated by Patrick Peters, Mike Wright and Randy Meacham. Burial will follow in the Clinton Cemetery under the direction of the Kiesau-Lee Funeral Home.

Weldon Harold Hyman was born February 3, 1930, at the family farm north of Strong City, Oklahoma to John Hyman and Ethel Hill. Life was difficult growing up as the sixth of nine sons. It became even harder when Harold’s mother passed away when he was only six years old. The three youngest in the family went to live with aunts and uncles while Harold remained at home with his dad and brothers. John never remarried.

During World War II with many men gone to the army there was a shortage of school bus drivers. Harold was given special permission to drive the school bus at 16. He loved playing basketball in high school. In 1948 Harold and his other three classmates were the last class to officially graduate from Strong City High School. After high school, Harold joined the U.S. Army and was deployed to Korea. Serving our country was of utmost importance to Harold, and he appreciated it when others recognized his service.

When Harold returned from Korea, he married Dorris Fern Vignal of Hammon, Oklahoma on August 19, 1952. They moved to Ft. Lewis, Washington to complete his time in the military. After being honorably discharged from the U.S. Army, Harold and Dorris returned to Oklahoma to be near their families. They worked together as a close team and established Hyman Oil Company where Harold became an oil jobber for Conoco and later Kerr-McGee.

Harold and Dorris retired in 2002 after nearly 49 years of hard work and spent the next few years travelling in their motorhome until declining health prevented them from travelling any longer. Harold was very active in the Clinton Church of Christ and served as a deacon. He also spearheaded the Uplift Ministry for several years. Throughout those years, he loved to greet everyone each Sunday morning and was known to children as the “Candy Man” as his pockets were always full of smarties.

After 59 years Harold lost the love of his life and business partner in 2011. After losing Dorris he continued to be active and enjoyed his lunches at the Branding Iron each day and coffee with his close friends at McDonald’s each afternoon. Harold always said that he and his coffee buddies worked to solve the problems of the world.

He was preceded in death by his parents, eight brothers, his wife, Dorris, and most recently his youngest son, Mike. He is survived by his children: Sharon and Buck Buchanan of Edmond, Oklahoma, Dewayne “Buzzy” and Gail Hyman of Weatherford, Oklahoma, Anita Hyman of Edmond, Oklahoma and daughter-in-law, Kim Hyman of Hammon, Oklahoma. Harold also leaves behind 6 grandchildren: Kelley Buchanan, Kasey Buchanan, Shane Hyman, Stacey Johnston, Kenli Miller and Jacota Hyman as well as 5 great-grandchildren: Zachary Buchanan, Camden Hyman, Aniston Hyman, Langston Miller and Kaizlee Miller. Harold is also survived by several nieces, nephews and cousins.

The family will greet guests 5:00 P.M. till 7:00 P.M., Thursday October 27, 2022, in the Kiesau Memorial Chapel.
