William “Bill” Byron Robertson, 77, of Putnam passed away on June 5, 2024, in Oklahoma City, OK. Services will be held at 10:00 AM on June 7, 2024, at the Putnam Christian Church with interment to follow at Liberty Cemetery south 0f Putnam OK, Oklahoma.
Bill was born to Nita and Leland Robertson on January 3, 1947, in Clinton, Oklahoma. He attended Clinton schools and later graduated from Putnam High School. He married Karen Friesen on January 21, 1967, and they made their first home in Clinton, Oklahoma. He continued his education and graduated with an Industrial Arts degree from Southwestern Oklahoma State University, in Weatherford, Oklahoma.
He was employed at ACME Brick Plant in Clinton for a few years before moving to Frederick, Oklahoma where he taught Woodshop. He moved his family to Putnam, OK and started his farming career. He worked in the oilfield for a short time during this transition. He was a very talented carpenter to perfection. He had the ability to build about anything from wood. He often helped others build their homes before he and Karen tore down several old houses and used the lumber to build their own house out on the hill.
He was such a compassionate, caring and generous man and loved by those that knew him.
He was a hard worker and he spent years on the harvest trail as a young man and later in life harvested with his family. His farming operations expanded to where eventually he couldn’t travel with combines.
Up until his death, Bill continued to farm and ranch, but as he got older his happy place was on a dozer pushing dirt or clearing out trees.
He enjoyed working on cars, especially his 1957 Chevy which he entered into numerous car shows and often won. During his last vacation he went to The Colorado Nascar Races to watch some of his family participate. He also enjoyed driving the four-wheel drive trails in the mountains of Colorado along with Karen.
Bill accepted Jesus as his Lord and Savior at a young age. He especially grew in faith during his later years. A special moment he cherished was when Karen would read to him from the Bible aloud in the morning.
He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers, Thomas Lynn Robertson, Sam Armstrong and Richard Robertson.
He is survived by his wife, Karen, daughters, Meshell Hunter and husband Kenny and Monica Stephenson and her husband Neal.
He is also survived by his seven grandchildren and his eight great grandchildren who brought him much joy.
